Saughton Road North water main renewal

A major project to renew the water main on Saughton Road North is due to get underway on Monday 25th September. Work will be done in several phases and is expected to take around 6 months to complete before moving to Kirk Loan, St John's Road and Clermiston Road.

The 1st phase will involve the closure of Saughton Road North between the rail / tram bridges and just north of the junction with Carrickknowe Road. Lothian Buses service 1 will operate via Broomhouse Road.

Alternative routes are likely to see a notable increase in traffic volumes so please allow plenty of extra travel time and expect delays in the Saughton / Carrickknowe / Broomhouse / Meadow Place areas.

Works update.

Work moves northwards from Monday 16th October, 1 week earlier than planned. Details on our Facebook page -

Chesser Avenue resurfacing

Carriageway resurfacing along the whole length of Chesser Avenue and upgrade to some traffic signals equipment.

Traffic management installed overnight on Sunday 22nd October ready for work to start at 8am on Monday 23rd for around 5 weeks.

Lane closures in both directions (inside lanes first then outside lanes). Signal-controlled junctions will be done during evening shifts towards the end of the project.

Side roads and bus stops closed as required and no right turns permitted across the works areas. Please allow extra travel time and refer to on-street signage for details of any diversions.
